Technical points about outdoor lighting

Before going head to toe in the purchase of outdoor lighting, you will have to take into account some technical obligations.

The IP class of outdoor luminaires

The NFC 15-100 standard imposes an index of protection for all types of lighting. Recall that the IP class is composed of 2 digits characterizing the protection against the penetration of solids and liquids. Outdoor fixtures such as garlands, wall lights or pegs must have a minimum IP rating of 24. However, an IP44 class is recommended in case of exposure to the weather, or IP65 or 68 if there is a source of water nearby (watering system or swimming pool).

How to connect garlands for outdoors

While some solar powered LED lights do not require an electrical connection, the more powerful lights are usually placed on the mains. The connection of garlands and other outdoor lights can be done using branch boxes (IP 44). If you like discretion, boxes imitating stone will fit perfectly in your garden.

Still, have questions? Do you need technical advice to choose the right lighting system for the holiday season?
